Tuesday Tweets and Computer Malfunctions

My computer is slowly dying. I've got less than an hour left with it, according to the battery. My 2-year-old knocked it off the table (warning to parents~ be vigilant about your placement with little ones running around!), and it fell right on the connector, which jammed the jack inside the machine, which means I can't power my baby anymore.

I'm taking it to a shop today, but money's a tad tight, so I'm not sure when I'll be back up and running (which stinks, because I was really making some progress on my WIP).

In the meantime, here are some November tweets offering comments and advice from fabulous literary agents:

kate_mckean Kate McKean, Howard Morhaim Literary
If you're writing YA and doing #nanowrimo, I challenge you NOT to put a dead parent or a car accident in your story.

jsinsheim Jessica Sinsheimer, Sarah Jane Freymann Agency
I do not recommend listing the 20 other agents you've sent your work to in your query. #PubTip

MarleneStringer Marlene Stringer, Stringer Literary Agency
If you Q a project & take months to send, don't be surprised if interest has waned. Market changes, etc. can make all the difference.#pubtip

sarahlapolla Sarah LaPolla, Curtis Brown, Ltd.
Quick! Someone write me a novel based on the song Long Black Veil by Johnny Cash & make it awesome. Thanks.

Dont send me a #query while you still have an agent. I dont know you, but I already dont trust (or like) you. #AgentsKnowEachOther #pubtip

JillCorcoran Jill Corcoran, The Herman Agency
I'm looking for YA first love, romantic comedy, thrillers, mystery, contemp with the emotional/groin pull of JBlume's FOREVER #askeditoragent
*Note- Jill is only open to conference attendees and by referral

MandyHubbard Mandy Hubbard, D4EO Agency
Guys, never, ever query on twitter. It's just not the place. Same goes for facebook. Shouldn't have to say it, but I do. #askeditoragent

jsinsheim Jessica Sinsheimer
Today's slush: robots, robots, and more robots! But they are clever robots, so that's something.

Natalie_Lakosil Natalie M. Lakosil, Bradord Literary
You know what I want right now? Something sweeping. Atmospheric and dark and sweeping. #queries

sarahlapolla Sarah LaPolla
When in doubt, wear bright yellow 4-inch heels. #lifeadvice

My apologies on not getting around to your blogs while my computer is being fixed, but hopefully I'll be back soon. Have a wonderful week :)

  1. I'm sorry your computer has a boo-boo? Wouldn't it be great if you could just kiss it and make it all better. :)

Hope the two of you get back on your feet soon!

  2. Losing a computer is a terrible thing for a writer. I've taken to writing freehand this month (although I later type it in before I lose it) to see if freehand makes a difference. Some people say it does. Maybe you could give it a try while you're waiting?

I loved Kate McKean's advice. As someone who put a dead parent in a MG book, I don't know why it's so compelling. It just is.

Now I'm off to google Long Black Veil It sounds compelling!

  3. Sorry to hear about your computer. Our youngest had fun pulling the keys off my laptop one time--glad I was able to fix them myself (I mean after the shock went away).

  7. Oh nuts! I hope you get back to work soon! It always sucks when life gets in the way of writing. Speaking of that, got to go feed my baby.

  8. Oh no. Kiddo vs. computer. Kid won.
But sounds like you've got a chance to enjoy it for a while before taking it in for the help it needs.

Appreciate the Tweet round up. Funny that the agent actually had to tweet to NOT query through FB or Twitter.

  9. Oh no! Broken computer is the worst! I'm keeping my fingers crossed that mine lasts until I can afford to replace it. Hope you can get yours fixed!

  10. I second the longhand suggestion! Might be worth a try if the computer's going to be gone for an extended period. But I hope it's not.

If you still have online access somehow and wanted to put a paypal button up on the blog, I bet that many of your loyal readers would be happy to throw a few bucks into a "Fix Jess's Computer" fund. I mean, if Authoress can get donations toward chocolate... =)

  12. Eh... that sucks. I hope the repair isn't too expensive. :(
Come back when you can and take bunch of notes to keep the wip fresh in your mind. Have a great week as well.

  13. Oh man, that really sucks! So sorry you have to deal with that. Just went through getting a new hard drive and I know how it feels without your computer there at your fingertips. Bummer. Hope you're up and running again soon.

  14. So sorry to hear about your comp. Ugh I think that's even worse than when my youngest son dropped or bowling ball on my toe or knocked me down when we were roller skating and broke my tailbone. Ugh. No, not as bad as that one.

I hope you can get it fixed without spending all the Christmas money.
