I had a post planned for today, but then I saw very sad news from the New York Times online. Maurice Sendak, children's author and illustrator, has passed away at the age of 83.
His work has meant so much to adults and children alike (and will continue to do so).

Maurice Sendak is one of the reasons I am a writer. He changed the face of children's literature.
ReplyDeleteRIP
He definitely did change the face of children's lit. He will be so very missed.
DeleteOh no. I adored him. So sad. :(
ReplyDeleteI couldn't believe it~ I just mentioned him in my last post. So very sad.
DeleteI got the breaking news and immediately my mind went to the Stephen Colbert show episode that Maurice was on. It was humorous, educational, enlightening and Maurice will be missed.
ReplyDeleteI loved that episode with his interview. He will definitely be missed.
DeleteRIP. Loved his writing. My kids loved him too.
ReplyDeleteOne of the few books my husband kept from his childhood is Where the Wild Things Are.
DeleteI'm so sad. He was like my gay icon of writing. Now I have to find another.
ReplyDeleteMaurice Sendak was one of a kind. His death leaves such a hole in the world of children's writing - but weren't we lucky to have him?
ReplyDeleteInterestingly, my son went to my "private collection" of hardback picture books last night and got Where the Wild Things Are off the shelf. I thought it was weird because he's never cared for this book. I think it was a sign. *Just kidding.*
ReplyDeleteSo sad. RIP, Maurice Sendak.
ReplyDeleteYeah, it was really sad to hear :( What an amazing man!
ReplyDeleteI was so sad to hear about his passing.
ReplyDeleteIt was odd that he was in the news just a few months ago and now he's gone.
ReplyDeleteWild Things was seriously the first book to ever spark my imagination. I'm a sucker for visually enhanced stories even as an adult (comics are a guilty pleasure to this day), and I owe much of it to Sendak.
ReplyDeleteRIP
I was so sad when I heard the news. His work has influenced me in so many ways. His books are my favorites to read to my kids. Micky in the Night Kitchen is one of my all time favorites.
ReplyDeleteRIP Maurice Sendak.
