Duty Calls...

Heading downtown to do my civic duty. Last time they didn't end up needing folks, so I got home by lunch. We'll see what happens this time.

Too bad I don't have a fancy phone so I can browse blogs while waiting (yup, I still own a flip phone...I'm so behind the times).

Have a great day, and don't forget about the 1st page contest with Tricia Lawrence~ this Friday on Daisy Carter's blog!

  1. Thanks for linking again! You've been so great about that, and I really appreciate it!

Wanted to remind you, too, that I'm doing the "Critique My Query" hop now through Thursday. Anyone who wants me and others to offer opinions on their query can link them to my blog. Kind of like a dress rehearsal before the big show Friday!

I would say, "Have fun at jury duty," but... well, you know.

    1. Got out at 11~ not bad at all! The query critique is something I'd love to do~ my time is limited today and I'd want to be sure to critique everyone as well as posting mine...we're still keeping an eye on the fires here.

  2. I see you your flip phone, and raise you, I don't even own my own cell. Hate those things. So I share Hubby's if I'm working weekends or out shopping while he's not at work.

    1. Oooo, I'm jealous. Not sure if I could get by with that. My sister's more of a texter, so I wouldn't be able to keep in touch with her as much without a cell.

  3. Thanks for the reminder, Jess! I have a cell but it's not a smart phone or anything....the only thing I do with it is text, and I'm 23. All my friends make fun of me for it but I just tell them I don't need a phone w/internet....just to text and call :-)

    1. You know what? They're great and I do get a twinge of jealously on occasion, but they also create the obligation of being email available ALL THE TIME, which has its downside :)

  4. I had Jury Duty a few months ago. I got dismissed after sitting around the court house for an hour. Needless to say, I was less than impressed.

  5. Ummmmm...I wouldn't tell too many people about the flip phone thing. Your street cred might take a hit! :) Just looking out for ya!

    1. Oh DL, I never had any street cred anyway. Even if I did, I've got teenagers remember? They tend to suck the street cred right outta you :)

  6. Hope jury duty is going well! Hey, if you get out of it then you have more time. If you have to do it it could be great for research potential. Could be fascinating.

    1. I got dismissed, so no research potential for me, unless I want a character looking bored while watching the provided film (National Treasure)~ there were about a hundred of those to choose from :)

  7. I love my flip phone! I can answer calls just by opening it! It's like I'm James Bond!

What's this all this about phones that can connect to the interwebs?

    1. You know what? I actually like it, too~ I never butt dial anyone by mistake with a flip phone. My hubby wants to downgrade :)

  8. Good luck! I went this past winter for the first time, and I reported for two days and a bit. it was 95% uneventful, and I got a lot of reading done!

    1. Just a half day for me. I took Pat Conroy's Beach Music as my fun reading for the day :)

  9. Kewl. Great opportunity to get material for stories. Could be characters, could be circumstances. Good luck.

    1. Alas, I was dismissed before I could glean any character ideas from the experience :)

  10. I don't have a fancy phone either, so I take my e-reader.

And I wasn't needed last jury duty either. I showed up and was dismissed.

    1. Same thing happened to me this time. I don't have an e-reader~ kind of wish I did. My book of choice was so heavy it threatened to break my flimsy purse strap :)

  11. My husband has been on two cases. One was a super nasty double homicide. I hope that you can avoid THAT kind of stuff...although, it might be fodder for a new story. ;)

    1. Yipes! I've read too many John Grisham novels to relish the idea of being on a homicide jury (did you ever see the movie with Demi Moore/Alec Baldwin about her being a juror?). I'd just be paranoid someone would be sent to come get me for convicting them. I'm a fraidy-cat like that :)

  12. Enjoy your day.My last few jury duty experiences have been less than impressive. But it is what it is. Maybe you'll get sone good reading in. :)
