One Month Countdown to Becky Thatcher and Co.

Hi All~
I've got a book coming out in just one month and my editor, the lovely Kristin Ostby of Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers, was kind enough to ship me a couple of early copies so I could see what they look like. Here they are:

(mine's on the left, next to shiny new editions of MARK TWAIN (!!!) books)
New editions of Mark Twain's The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn are being released at the same time (to be sold individually and in a boxed collection with Becky T.). Iacopo Bruno did a wonderful job with the covers and interior illustrations and I'm excited for the books to hit shelves on July 1st

Munchkin #2 w/ books (looks like she prefers Huck Finn)
My parents happened to stop by last Thursday/Friday and I got to surprise them with the dedication page featuring two names that are very near and dear to me: Mom & Dad. They drove to Colorado after visiting my grandma in Iowa~ 11 hours just to see the grandkids~ before heading back across the country to their home in Tennessee. They called this morning, having stopped in Hannibal, Missouri, hometown of Samuel Clemens, aka Mark Twain. Here are a couple of photos they emailed me from the Mark Twain Boyhood Home and Museum:

And in weather news, it's finally starting to warm up around here. My 5-year-old gathered a bowl of hail during last week's storm and put it in the freezer to show anyone who happens to drop by, but other than that, I believe summer is on the way. Hope you're all doing well!

    1. How super excited are you? What did you think the moment you opened the box? Did you cry at all? I probably would have cried a tad.

    2. You know what? I didn't cry and I'm not sure why not. It was very cool, but also felt a bit surreal. I think seeing the Mark Twain editions next to mine just felt a little fake because it's not something I ever would have thought to dream of. It's crazy and serendipitous and I'm a very grateful & happy camper :)

    3. You know, now that you say that, I can see that. That surreal moment. Very very cool. I hope you carry it with you, always. Great job. Super happy for you.

    1. Thanks, Andrew. By the way, your name came up at our house the other night. My husband and I had just finished watching All is Lost (Robert Redford movie) and we both had a similar opinion about it. My husband asked, "What did Andrew think?" because I share your movie reviews with him (we don't get out much, so your reviews are a good way of seeing if a film is worth paying for or not). I wasn't sure if you'd reviewed it. Off to check now :)

Just look at your name in the same place as Mark Twain's!!!

  7. Awesome with the book! I have never been to Mark Twain's boyhood home, I'd definitely be absorbed in the history. Thanks to your parents for sending you the pics and details.

    1. I haven't been there either~ seems unfair because my parents have stopped by two or three times. I get to go to his home in Hartford, CT later this year (the one he lived in when he wrote Tom Sawyer), so that'll be neat. But there's something about childhood homes/towns that's special :)

    1. Ha! I didn't think about it like that~ I'm pretty sure people who buy the boxed set will assume that they're all Twain books and won't realize my book is slipped in there until after they get home :) But thanks!

  18. Havent' been here in a while and catching up on your posts... how surreal is that, your book getting packaged with Mark Twains? I am so excited to read it! I re-read Tom Sawyer earlier this year with your book in mind.

Also loved the post with the pirate pens. Not QUITE as cool as dragon pens, but very, very close.
